1379779756301408300MUSCAT — Dr Fuad bin Jaafar al Sajwani, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, yesterday presided over the opening of the Ministerial Conference for the Near East, North Africa and top five countries — Brazil, Indonesia, Italy, Norway and Spain, at Al Bustan Palace Hotel. The opening was attended by a number of ministers and heads of delegations representing Near Eastern and North African states as well as the other five countries. Addressing the conference, the minister of agriculture and fisheries said the conference will discuss the decisions and measures that were taken by the secretariat of the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture since the 4th meeting of the presidential authority that was held in Bali, Indonesia in 2011. Al Sajwani said a number of working papers will be presented during the conference with the aim of prioritising the projects that can be adopted by the presidential authority and the secretariat of ITPGRFA. The conferees will also deliberate on how to secure support from the donors to help farmers face the challenge of climate change during the forthcoming period. — ONA
